Taurinya is a quite narrow village and area from west to east but wide spread to the south as it includes the north slope of the Canigou mountain with its peak (2784 m). The place was probably already known from the Middle-Age as a district of iron mining.
Balatg in the mountain and Lo Salver and the Corts Tower in the valley were busy iron exploitations during the 19th and 20th centuries.
They closed before the sixties.
