Tyoply Stan is a district (raion) of South-Western Administrative Okrug of the federal city of Moscow, whose name is derived from the former villages Nizhnie Tyoplye Stany and Verkhnie Tyoplye Stany, become a part of Moscow in 1960. The top of Teplostanskaya highland, the city's highest point at 255 m a.s.l., is located on the territory of the district.
Minerals have been found in various places of the territory and also in an old quarry (currently buried) to the east of Profsoyuznaya street, near the Moscow Ring Road (MKAD), on the territory of the neighbouring Yasenevo district.
Quartz is found in the form of light-gray monomineral quartzitic sandstone (including tubular pseudomorphs after siliceous sponges, reaching 3–5 cm in size) with smoky gravel grains and veinlets. Opal is found in the form of light gray and yellowish-white aphanitic uneven basal cement in quartz sandstones. These rocks are also characterized by admixtures of microscopic chalcedony and glauconite, in some places oxidized to limonite, and sooty formations of manganese oxides.
Teplostanskaya ilmenite-rutile-zircon placer deposit is confined to the Cenomanian stage of the Late Cretaceous; the content of ore minerals
in the greenish and yellowish-gray inequigranular sands amounts to 34 kg/m3, the thickness of the placer reaches 1.3 m.
