Located about 26 miles off the coast of Santa Barbara in the Pacific Ocean, Santa Rosa Island is the second largest (53,195 acres) of California's Channel Islands. The highest elevation is Soledad Peak at 1,589 feet. Four different oil companies drilled for oil on the island between 1932-1975 but no significant oil was ever found. In 1980, Santa Rosa Island was included within the Channel Islands National Park.
