Bisbee, Cochise County, Arizona, USADimensions: 8 cm x 7.5 cm x 3.5 cm
Lustrous crystals of dark blue azurite to 1.3 cm. across on malachite-coated matrix. There is a minor replacement by malachite here and there.
Specimen size: 8x7.5x3.5 cm.
41R-D9CHematite Fe2O3
Binn Valley, Valais, SwitzerlandDimensions: 6.2 cm x 3.8 cm x 1.8 cm
Highly lustrous spherical "iron roses" to 1.2 cm. on diameter resting on matrix. The "iron roses" have grown to a point where the closed spherical form appears.
Specimen size: 6.2x3.8x1.8 cm.
G0V-KXGFluorite CaF2 , K Feldspar (Var: Adularia) KAlSi3O8 , Chlorite Group
Vorderer Zinggenstock, Zinggenstöcke, Oberaar lake area, Guttannen, Interlaken-Oberhasli, Bern, SwitzerlandDimensions: 20 cm x 14 cm x 6 cm
Octahedral crystals of dark pink fluorite to about 1.8 cm. on edge on granite matrix. It seems that fluorite crystals were etched and later regrown on edges and corners. Some chlorite-coated adularia associated.
Specimen size: 20x14x6 cm.
7XA-KWJHematite (Var: Kidney Ore) Fe2O3
Parkside Mine, Frizington, Arlecdon & Frizington, Copeland, Cumbria, England, UKDimensions: 9.5 cm x 7.5 cm x 7.5 cm
Heavy choice highly lustrous specimen of classic "kidney-ore" hematite. It displays well showing botroidal surfaces except at back and bottom where it is possible to appreciate the banded struture of this kind of hematite. A great "kidney-ore" specimen.
T77-9A3Fluorite CaF2 , Pyrite FeS2 , Calcite CaCO3
Frazer's Hush Mine, Rookhope, Stanhope, County Durham, England, UKDimensions: 16 cm x 11.5 cm x 5 cm
Lustrous transparent to translucent purple penetration twins of fluorite to 1.5 cm. covering the top surface of a rock slab. At bottom there is a coverage of crystalline pyrite, iridescent at areas, with cubic crystals to 2 mm. Highly fluorescent.
M52-AF0Cinnabar HgS , Mercury Hg , Quartz SiO2 , Pyrite FeS2
Las Cuevas Mine, Almadén Mine, Almadén, Ciudad Real, Castile-La Mancha, SpainDimensions: 10 cm x 7 cm x 4 cm
A mass of pyrite-cinnabar ore with a surface coated by a layer of microcristalline quartz impregnated and coated itself by red cinnabar and numerous small droplets of native mercury. On this surface lie several lustrous translucent deep red crystals of cinnabar to 0.4 cm. across. Interesting specimen from this historic district now closed for ever.
Specimen size: 10x7x4 cm.
QPU-P8NCalcite CaCO3
Geevor Mine, Pendeen, St Just, Cornwall, England, UKDimensions: 4 cm x 3.3 cm x 1.5 cm
Cluster of lustrous white hexagonal crystals of calcite to about 1 cm. across and 0.2 cm. thick.
A0Q-DNTAlbite (Var: Pericline) Na(AlSi3O8) , Chlorite Group, Titanite CaTi(SiO4)O
Burg - Fiesch Glacier area, Fieschertal, Goms, Valais, SwitzerlandDimensions: 4.5 cm x 3.5 cm x 2.8 cm
Floater matrixless cluster of lustrous opaque snow-white crystals of albite variety pericline to 3.9 cm. long partly coated by tiny green chlorite crystals. At bottom there are a few small lustrous transparent orange crystals of titanite to less than 0.2 cm. long. Undamaged and a nice classic alpine specimen. See Le Règne Minèral, 52 (2003) for a description of this finding.
Specimen size: 4.5x3.5x2.8 cm.
