KHR-U7FQuartz (Var: "Herkimer-style" Quartz) SiO2
Middleville, Town of Newport, Herkimer County, New York, USADimensions: 1.8 cm x 1.3 cm x 0.08 cm
One of several found this summer by my son zach while visiting withfamily. My sister and her husband have several dairy farms through out New York state,"Leroy" "Argyle" "Avon" "ST.Johnsville""canajoharie""White Plaines"Amsterdam and "Albany"They live in St.Johnsville, but take the hour or so ride to Middleville, for Herkimers a popular spot for locals. When ever a younger family member travels a few thousand miles to visitmy sisters family they are taken over to middleville, with diamond hunting in mind.A great activity for youngsters burns off extra energy. This was found actually by my sisters 9 year old son and it must have been dropped by someone else because it was just sitting ontop of the ground all by itself within the digging area. Has some inclusions and some carbon deposits.Still a neat piece to look at overall size is 1.8 x 1.3 x .08 cm.Gordon c De'Young collection "seems i didnt give enough information on the location so here goes"ACE of Diamonds Mine Route 28,Middleville ,New York.A popular local for loacals of up state new york

00C-FVQCovellite CuS , Malachite Cu2(CO3)(OH)2 , Pyrite FeS2 , Quartz (Var: Milky Quartz) SiO2 , Chalcocite Cu2S
Silver Bow County, Montana, USADimensions: 8.2 cm x 4.3 cm x 3.5 cm
At first i was looking at the wrong tag for this mineral example,The purple in the covellite is just amazeing the photo's just don't do it.So many different minerals in such a small area makes it really attractive. The milky quartz is the canvas. And the other minerals are the oil paints. No damage to any of the covellite blades. The actual tag that goes along with this mineral reads covellite w/ pyrite,Silver Bow county,Montana.I guess grandma didnt have room for the rest of the info on the tag. This is from an old collection that has been boxed away since 1975 until recently. overall size is 8.2 x 4.3 x 3.5 cm.Gordon c De'Young collection.

X17-F0UChalcopyrite CuFeS2
Illinois River Mining District, Josephine County, Oregon, USADimensions: 1.8 cm x 1.8 cm x 1.2 cm
A rare find for this locality this was found saturday November 22,2008 I and two of my sons went on a nice fall walk out in the illinois river area about a mile or two away from eight mile a well known swimming area to the locals here.I was walking along side a small creek that leads into the illinois.I was walking through black berries and other bushes i wasnt on a path. All of a sudden i noticed this shine coming from the creeks edge i thought it might be fools gold after closer observation i noticed it was a nice size rock with a copper tone as well as green and maybe some quartz.I cant see this rock being dropped by someone so i would say it came right out of that creek.overall size is 1.8 x 1.8 x1.2 cm. Most of the tags fell off the minerals and were amongst news paper and sitting on the bottom of many boxes. And some tags were partial because of tearing anf wear. The tag to this example simply said (ikoto, namibi)overall size is 7.3 x 5.7 x 2.3 cm.Gordon c De'Young collection
77X-GMJPetrified Wood
Mount Adams area, Mount Adams, Yakima County, Washington, USADimensions: 34 cm x 12.5 cm x 5 cm
Weight: 9.5 lb
I found this myself, near mount Adams "Adams creek meadows" during the summer of 2006. I was out looking for petrified wood with a few friends I came along this branch in tact and it measured 7 feet. But as it would go once we tried to move it snap! It's actually solid quartz even the remaining brown bark, it looks like bark but it's actually quartz also. I cut this so that it would look like a piece of fire wood, when ever i hand it to any one they can't believe how heavy it is being 9 1/2 pounds. Please look at all the photograph's top, then three of the top and one of the bottom, end tip shot.Look at the knot isnt that crazy ive never scene petrified wood like this entire branch, I also cut a few 8 x 8 chunks from the tree itself.
