| Abstract/Notes | The Central Asian Orogenic Belt developed through long-lived subduction-accretion of the Paleo-Asian Ocean. In the eastern Central Asian Orogenic Belt, the Xing-Meng Orogen records Paleo-Asian Ocean subduction and collision between the Siberia and North China cratons, whereas the southern Bainaimiao Arc offers an ideal setting to reconstruct subduction-accretion. In the central-western part of the Bainaimiao Arc, Ordovician-Devonian sedimentary successions associated with the Baoerhantu Island Arc comprise, from base to top, the Ordovician Haliqi Formation, Silurian Aibugaihe and Xibiehe formations, and Devonian Chaganhabu Formation. The geochronological results indicate that the youngest detrital zircon weighted mean ages are ca. 442 Ma for the Haliqi Formation, with the peaks at 448 Ma, 946 Ma, 1863 Ma, 2454 Ma, and 2802 Ma; ca. 420 Ma for the Aibugaihe Formation, with the peaks at 440 Ma and 505 Ma; ca. 418 Ma for the Xibiehe Formation, with one peak at 470 Ma; ca. 405 Ma for the Chaganhabu Formation, with one peak at 440 Ma. Provenance analysis indicates that the Haliqi Formation was mainly derived from the Bateaobao Magmatic Arc and associated accretionary complexes, whereas the Aibugaihe Formation received detritus from both the Bateaobao and Xilahada magmatic arcs together with accretionary complexes; the Xibiehe and Chaganhabu formations were sourced primarily from the Bateaobao and Xilahada magmatic arcs. These results define four Paleozoic tectonic stages for the Baoerhantu Island Arc: Late Cambrian to Late Ordovician southward subduction of the Paleo-Asian Ocean and back-arc deposition of the Haliqi Formation; Late Ordovician to Middle Silurian northward subduction of the South Bainaimiao Ocean, inter-arc basin development, and deposition of the Aibugaihe Formation; Late Silurian the Baoerhantu Island Arc was accreted to the North China Craton and deposition of the Xibiehe Formation; Early Devonian uplift and erosion of the Baoerhantu Island Arc and angular unconformable deposition of the Chaganhabu Formation. Bidirectional subduction and stepwise accretion along the southern Paleo-Asian Ocean margin provide sedimentary-provenance constraints on arc-continent collision and basin evolution at the southern termination of the Xing-Meng Orogen. |
