Downhole of this locality are marine limestones assigned to the Early Palaocene (Montain). The Montain has now been formalized as the Swalmen Member of the Landen Formation. Downhole of this locality are marine limestones assigned to the Early Palaocene (Montain). The Montain has now been formalized as the Swalmen Member of the Landen Formation. Maasniel State Mine LXXIV borehole, 457.0-475.0 mBatten D. J., Collinson M. E. (2001)Landen - SwalmenIn the Netherlands the samples from the borehole at Maasniel, drilled during the period 1953-1956, is derived from lithologies described as 'Limnic Montain (Upper Montain)' in the original log data of the Geological Survey of the Netherlands. This succession has now been formalized as the Swalmen Member of the Landen Formation which spans the Thanetian (Late Palaeocene) and the debated boundary interval. However, the member is dated as Late Palaeocene, Thanetian, on the grounds that it represent59.2 - 33.9 Ma
