The describing authors write, "To reflect the complexity and chemical diversity of the structure of this mineral, we have named it byzantievite. (For) nearly twelve centuries (374–1453), the Byzantine Empire was home to many nations and religions. The structure of the Byzantine Empire was very complex, but nevertheless, this state was well-organized, effective and had a major influence on European and World culture."
