Enstatite Chondrite, low-iron [EL6; S2]
1969 find, 40 kg, weathered
A crater with numerous fragments around a depression and a second, larger mass found 2 years later 400 meters away provided Australian geologists with the second largest known EL ( low-iron) Enstatite chondrite. While weathering is an issue, the uneven nature of the weathering has permitted a rather complete description of the meteorite including some detailed descriptions of very reduced phases found mostly in the Enstatite meteorite clan. Enstatite (mostly in well-defined Enstatite-rich chondrules, admixed with minor Silica) constitute ~ 60 wt.% of the meteorite. The other important components are Metal (~20 wt.% ), Plagioclase (~9 wt.%), and Troilite (~ 6 wt.% ). According to Buseck and Holdsworth (1972) the meteorite is ‘unique’ among Enstatite Chondrites in complexity, abundance of Taenite, and diversity of zincian materials and minor sulfides.
