A former lode Au occurrence/prospect/mine located in sec. 12, T21N, R9E, MDM, 0.5 km (0.3 mile) SE of Saint Louis, N of Cedar Grove Ravine (3 miles NE of La Porte), on National Forest land. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 1,000 meters.
Mineralization is a vein deposit hosted in slate. The ore body strikes NE and dips SE. The deposit is in an 18 foot fissure with 8 foot thick quartz and graphitic gouge on the footwall. The main vein is thrown 40 feet by a cross vein 4 feet thick. The quartz is glassy. Local rocks include undivided pre-Cenozoic metavolcanic rocks, unit 2 (undivided).
Workings include surface and underground openings comprised of an 18 foot incline and an 8 foot shaft.
