A former lode Au occurrence/mine located in sec. 34, T19N, R10E, MDM, 0.5 km (0.3 mile) ENE of Alleghany, along the North Fork Kanake Creek, on National Forest land. MRDS database accuracy for this location is not stated. During the 1920's, the Sixteen-to-One Mine also acquired several more competing claims and mines including the Ophir and Eclipse properties.
Mineralization is a vein deposit. The ore body strikes N52W and dips 52NE at a thickness of 1.83 meters. A 5 to 6 foot thick quartz mass occurs at the junction of two branches It is crushed and sheared, with hanging wall slip. The country rock is crushed and intensely altered, nearby it is fresh. The ore shoot apparently followed both the junction and a sharp roll in the vein. The vein probably follows a normal fault of small displacement. It is traceable to the SE across the ridge for 600 feet. The quartz is not continuous throughout. Veins may connect with the Snow Drift to the SE and the Morning Glory. Local rocks include undivided pre-Cenozoic metavolcanic rocks, unit 2 (undivided).
Workings include underground openings comprised of 3 adits, with one of them accessible from the portal and another only by winze from the first adit.
Total production was between $20,000 & $50,000 (period values).
