A former lode Au-Ag-Zn mine located in sec. 23, T2N, R13E, MDM, 1.9 km (1.2 miles) W of Melones (site), along Carson Creek. Discovered about 1862 and developed. Operated in 1880 and 1882 to 1904. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 1,000 meters.

NOTE: USGS MRDS database file #10162621 presents MRDS file #10029461 as a related file; however, that file is totally unrelated to this mine.

Mineralization is hosted in slate of the Late Jurassic Cosumnes Formation; Logtown Ridge Formation. The ore body strikes NW and dips NE at a thickness of 9.14 meters. A series of metasediments are correlated with the Cosumnes Formation. Greenstones of the Logtown Ridge Formation are to the W. There are 2 main veins approximately 250 feet apart and parallel. The veins range from 15 to 30 feet in thickness. The ore shoot on the 700 foot level was approximately 200 feet long and 30 feet wide. A considerable amount of tellurides of Au & Ag were recovered during early operations. Local rocks include pre-Cenozoic metasedimentary and metavolcanic rocks undivided and/or Mesozoic volcanic rocks, unit 2 (Western Sierra Foothills and Western Klamath Mountains).

Workings include underground openings comprised of a 700 foot deep shaft. Initial development was a 100 foot deep shaft. Later, a 700 foot deep shaft was sunk. The first 75 feet are vertical and then the remainder is inclined at 45 degrees. Other workings include a 140 foot vertical shaft, the 100 foot level of which has 2 crosscuts at 70 and 90 feet. Also, there are over 700 feet of drifts and crosscuts.

Production data are found in: Clark, Wm. B. & P.A. Lydon (1962).

Analytical data results: The ore assayed at from $5 to $15 Au/ton (period values).
