Structure: Shear Zone
Alteration: Silicification; Some Argillization; Sericitization
Deposit: A shear zone follows a diabase dike with thin-bedded limestone of the star peak formation forming the northwest wall of the dike and rhyolite of the koipato formation forming the southeast wall. The shear zone contains gouge, small stringers and pods of quartz, and small pods and stringers of stibnite within the quartz. The area just described are the workings at the boundary of sec 23 & 24 in shaley limestone cut by a diabase sill. No mineralization was noted on the dumps on the north side of the canyon. The main antimony mine is in the center of sec 2-4 in rochester rhyolite. The quartz vein strikes n30e, dip 45 se and contains abundant stibnite and sb oxides. Some hand-sorted ore is in barrels on dump. About 50 meters to the east is another adit now caved which explores a n50w-trending mineralized fault zone which dips 35 sw. Vein quartz on the dump contains bands of tourmaline, pyrite, sphalerite, and some jamesonite? the rhyolite is silicified and sericitized. The two structures are in close proximity but have significantly different ore minerals.; model name could also be: simple sb. Prospect is developed by a short adit and winze. A shear zone follows a diabase dike (like that at panther canyon mine) with thin-bedded limestone of the star peak formation forming the northwest wall of dike and rhyolite of koipato formation forming the southeast wall. Adit is no W filled with water. ; info.src : 1 pub lit; 2 unpub rept; 3 field observ
Deposit type: Low-sulfide Au-quartz vein
Geology: Shear zone contains gouge, small stringers & pods of quartz, & small pods & streaks of stibnite within the quartz
