An open cast mine with several shafts on the western side of the valley. Mining ceased in 1914 though recovery from tips continued for some years.
Ref: Richardson P.H.G. (1991) Mines of Dartmoor & the Taymar Valley after 1913, Devon Books, Tiverton.
In the period 2003 to 2020 a great deal of the site has been allowed to get overgrown and has been re-fenced by the forestry owners. It is now almost impossible to access the open works or areas around the tips and shafts and though some mineral samples have been brought to the surface by the fencing work this is only specular haematite. Nov. 2020.
