Pyin-gyi Taung (Big timber mountain) is located roughly 6 km East of Letpanhla (in direct line). There are countless pegmatite occurrences (mostly Li-pegmatites) distributed over this mountain range, combined in four separate mining areas: Kyawt-ma, Taung-chat-su-chan, Myauk-chat-su-chan, and Ba-da-ya (where the first tourmalines have been found). Most characteristic are the moor's head rubellites. However, other colored tourmalines (often zoned), ranging from colorless to blue and green or yellow regularly occur. Some of them exhibit characteristic columnar habit similar to those from Pantahole Mine.
The mineralogy of these pegmatites is currently under study (Kolitsch et al., to be published).
NOTE: The grid reference is (approximately) centered on Ba-da-ya Mine.
