Former clays pits Bethel I (closed in 1961) and Sudbrack (closed in 1956).
Both are now completely backfilled.
"The location of Bethel I has been turned into a sports field belonging to the Bodelschwingh-Oberschule (Aufbauschule Bethel) on the Pella-Weg." [Büchner, 1966]
Bethel I: strike North 160° East, dip: 20° WSW.
Famous among fossil collectors for calcified specimens of Lower and Middle Jurassic
- ammonites (Parkinsonia Parkinsoni Sow., usually up to 20cm in size, although larger specimens have been found),
- bivalves (Trigonia subtriangularis Wetzel, Trigonia interlaevigata Quenst., Trigonia clavellata Park., Clavotrigonia petasoides Wetzel),
- belemnites (Megateuthis giganteus Schloth., rostra of up to 50cm long and phragmocones of up to 15cm in diameter and 20cm long),
- crinoids (Seirocrinus basaltiformis Mill., Encrinus liliiformis Schloth.),
- remains of carbonized wood with mineralization in its shrinkage cracks have also been found.
