This is the eastern end of the Mainland section of the goldfield. It can be best classed historically as a prospecting area. It contains innumerable shafts of prospectors from around the late 1890's to World War One. Little information could be found, as most finds were small. There were usually several prospecting parties working the field at any given time.
The Hill End Mine was noted in 1906, owned and operated by the Hill End Syndicate, a local group of miners. A small battery was erected. Also is this year, Charles Herival was killed, and Ben Smith severely injured when they drilled into a rock face, and struck unexploded dynamite left there previously. Mining continued to around 1909.
The area remained a haunt of prospectors through the late 1920's and into the 1930's. It remains undeveloped by modern mining.
