This historic gold mine operated between 1894 and 1907, at the southern end of the Day Dawn field, one kilometre south of the Golden Crown Mine, and is named after nearby Trenton Hill. Even in this short time the mine had a chequered history.
It was first reported in July 1894, with the construction of a ten head battery and pumping engine. Eight hundred tonnes of gold bearing ore was said to be on the surface. The mine was operated by W.R. Wilson and party, with mine manager Robert Arkley.
The first rumblings of discontent was heard only a year later when reports came out of Cue over local dis-satisfaction at how the mine was being operated, although no further details were noted.
It was by 1895 the deepest on the field at 60 metres with quartz showing gold.
The mine was sold April 1895 for 20 000 pounds and the Trenton Gold Mining Company was formed. This lasted only to 1897 when it wound up. During this time the company removed 6000 tonnes of ore, and the tailings were being treated at 23 dwt per tonne gold. The battery was removed in 1898.
In 1902 the mine was sold to the A and F Spencer brothers with Captain Owen as mine manager.
A syndicate from Perth operated the mine from 1905-1907, noting that the mine had been largely moribund the previous few years. The mine manager was Leslie Hall.
Everything appears to have ground to a halt by 1907. In November 1907 a local media outlet said the following: 'very little has been heard of the prospecting operations at the Trenton Mine at Day Dawn for a considerable time past, and it has been summised the hopes of the courageous mining investors who had put their cash into opening up the mine are doomed to shipwreck. Efforts are being made to float the company in London'.
Various mining exploration companies continue to make glowing reports from the area, with little subsequent activity.
