Enstatite Chondrite, low-iron [EL6; S2]
Fall, October 1946; 9.46 kg, weathered
A few months after a bright fireball appeared a single mass was recovered from a ploughed field SW of Eagle. However, the stone was not analyzed for nearly four decades. Chemically and mineralogically, Eagle appears to be a EL6 Enstatite chondrite — Enstatite is dominant and is accompanied by the expected Fe-Ni metal, Troilite, and other minor phases such as Alabandite and Schreibersite. Any Oldhamite, however, has apparently been weathered way. The absence of chondrules indicates extensive metamorphism even for an EL6 chondrites. A number of small clasts are apparently due to post-metamorphic brecciation.
