A small mine on the cliff edge west of Carnewas farm. When it was started in 1855, it worked a NS-trending lead lode which cropped out near the low water mark. Three more lead lodes and a "tie lode" carrying silver mixed with copper and antimony (probably argentiferous tetrahedrite) crop out below the sands. These lodes were crossed by an EW-trending copper lode and there is also another lode recorded which carried pyrite, nickel and antimony ores. The mine was abandoned in 1863 and reworked for iron between 1868 and 1874. There is no trace left of the workings.
The count house is amongst the group of buildings in the NT car park.
Between 1868 and 1874, Carnewas Mine raised 6,025 tons of iron ore.
