On Hog Hill are many stone quarries, some only a few feet deep. Several are cross-cut by small veins of pegmatite. These may contain schorl and almandine. The surrounding gniess contains almandine. The almandines may reach 3in across, and a notable find of schorl included one 7in crystal.
