The western shore and cliffs of Whale Cove have Basaltic Rocks exposed and there are boulders of the same in the beach face. The locality is somewhat stingy and beach boulders may be more productive than large portions of the cliff that contain basalt without mineral-filled vesicles. The basalt outcrops at beach level in several places and may show crude columnar texture and, while not of "postcard" quality, are still very interesting.

Important note: The high tides are of an important concern, particularly there are places where the cliffs have prominent outcrops where dry access to the rest of the beach may unavailable as there are places that can trap unaware beach walkers. At high tide, the cliff projections are blocked by water long before unaware collectors might notice how high the tide is. Life-threatening conditions may occur. Always know when high tide is and always watch to see how high the tide is getting. If you are accustomed to leaving piles of specimens on rocks as you work along a locality, you might discover that your specimen pile is submerged.

Chabazite-Ca
Formula: (Ca,K2,Na2)2[Al2Si4O12]2 · 12H2O
Chalcopyrite
Formula: CuFeS2
Chrysocolla
Formula: Cu2-xAlx(H2-xSi2O5)(OH)4 · nH2O, x < 1
Copper
Formula: Cu
Epidote
Formula: (CaCa)(AlAlFe3+)O[Si2O7][SiO4](OH)
Epistilbite
Formula: CaAl2Si6O16 · 5H2O
Description: Epistilbite is colorless to milky white and may be transparent. Vesicles are frequently completely filled and the epistilbite may show a slightly divergent rod-like texture. Individual crystals are actually bladed and have a flat termination with some small modifying faces near the termination. It is somewhat common at Whale Cove and at its outcrop extension at Seven Days Work Cliffs.
