Ruby Claim; Ruby Lode Claim; Ruby Mine
The Ruby claim was staked by John Clunan and James Milliken in October of 1886 along with the adjacent Poorman and Fairview claims on the same vein. It was named for pyrargyrite, also know as ruby silver, which was found there
George Bethune, the Washington State Geologist, reported on the property in 1890. His review was very optimistic for the mine to become a major producer. In his report the following year, however, he reviewed nearly all the surrounding claims but made no mention of any developments at the Ruby claim.
Bethune noted in his 1890 report that as part of his state collection of ores, he had obtained beautiful specimens of cuprite and native silver from the Ruby claim.
At some point, the Ruby claim changed hands and became the Last Chance mine which is the name that appears on current topo maps. The workings are caved in and flooded.
