The Delta Gold Mine is on Delta Island, half-way between Kambalda and the Lefroy Mill, surrounded by the Lake Lefroy salt-pan. The island is intensely mined, with a number of deposits and mines next to each other, and a complex geology. The Delta South is a separate but neighbouring pit, and has been included together on Mindat.
Gold deposition is controlled at Delta Mine by the north north-west trending Delta Shear Zone, which sits on the hinge of the Delta Island Anticline. Primary mineralisation is complex, with one Hanging Wall, and at least two Footwalls. All lithologies host gold, especially at the contacts between Kapai Slate and intrusive or mafic rocks. The weathering profile is up to 30 metres thick, and deepens over the Delta Shear. Overlying this is 0 to 25 metres of Tertiary sediments. There is a significant supergene zone in the regolith.
