The Intrepide open pit is half-way between Kambalda and Delta Island, bordering the west side of the causeway, in the Lake Lefroy salt-pan. There is also a West Intrepide deposit 600 metres to the south-west.
Gold mineralisation is part of a 540 metre long shear, striking north-west and dipping 45 degrees to the west. Mineralisation is controlled by the contact between the pyrite rich Kapai Slate and the shear.
The slate has been tectonically thickened by the intermediate and felsic rocks. Above this is 15 metres of Tertiary sediments. Below this the Archaean rocks have been weathered down to 40 metres.
