Name:
Named for its relationship to monazite-(Ce). The suffix/modifier follows the Levinson rule for minerals with essential REE, indicating a predominance of neodymium. The root name is from the Greek μουάζειυ "to be solitary" in allusion to the rarity of its (monazite-(Ce)) presence in the first known localities.
