About Cobalt-bearing Smithsonite
Formula:
(Zn,Co)CO3
A variety of Smithsonite
A name for pink smithsonite previously believed to be a Co-bearing variety of Smithsonite.
Originally described from Santa Rosalía (El Boleó), Boleó District, Mun. de Mulegé, Baja California Sur, Mexico.
Bob Meyer and other researchers noted that most pink smithsonite does not contain significant Co; Mn or Fe may be the chromophore in some cases at least.
