The Vulcan Gold Mine is between the Melbourne United and Strathfield mines on the Queen Margaret line of lode. It historically produced 8 tonnes of ore at 21.89 g/t yielding 5.72 ounces in 1902 only.
The site is on a low hill with old workings and evidence of eluvial dryblowing. Gold is hosted by quartz veins in felsite.
