A Mn occurrence located in the S½ sec. 34, T29N, R11W, MDM, 3.9 km (2.4 miles) E of Red Mountain (coordinates of record) (near the summit of the Hayfork-Prospect Creeks divide), on National Forest land. MRDS database accuracy for this location is not stated.
Mineralization is a Mn deposit hosted in Late Jurassic chert. Soft black manganese oxides occur as matrix about fragments of dark green chert, and as outer rims, pockets and minute gash veinlets in the harder chert. The chert dips steeply to the NE. A thin clay layer occurs above the chert. It retains textures suggestive of altered tuffaceous clastics, followed above by firmer dark-colored sericitic slate. Local rocks include Paleozoic marine rocks, undivided, unit 9 (Western Klamath Mountains).
Analytical data results: Estimated less than 20% Mn. Small outcrop.
