A Au occurrence located in the SE¼SW¼ sec. 13, T2S, R11E, SBM, 4.3 km (2.6 miles) NNE of Pinto Mountain (coordinates of record) (6 miles S of New Dale (site) [San Bernardino County]). MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 10 meters.
NOTE: USGS MRDS database file #10064441 presents geographic coordinates placing this mine in sec. 32, with an accompanying note: "Joshua Tree Wilderness. East slope of Pinto Mountains. Used center of section 32 for lat-long. Land status value calculated 7-94 using GIS overlay analysis with USFS (U.S. Forest Service) land ownership boundaries, 1:126,720 scale." The verbiage seems to state that the selection of the coordinates was arbitrary, particularly since the coordinates presented in MRDS file #10213154 place this mine exactly on the spot on the topo map where there is a shaft symbol labeled "Star Mine," outside the boundaries of the National Park. The coordinates from the latter MRDS file are presented in this Mindat file.
