A former lode Au mine located in sec. 9, T4S, R27E, MDM, 5.0 km (3.1 miles) SSW of Mammoth Lakes (town), on National Forest land. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 1,000 meters.
NOTE: There are 3 MRDS files for this locality. File #10007192 presents location data, placing it in sec. 13, T3S, R27E, MDM. The accompanying description cooresponds with this T&R value; however, it is inconsistent with the data presented in the other 2 MRDS files, which place the mine in the heart of the Lakes District, near all other localities in that district.
The ore body strikes N30E and dips 70SE at a thickness of 1.83 meters. Local rocks include Quaternary volcanic flow rocks, unit 2 (Long Valley Caldera) and/or Mesozoic volcanic rocks, unit 3 (Mojave Desert, Death Valley area, and Eastern Sierra Nevada).
Workings include underground openings comprsied of 3 tunnels, 100 feet apart; a 5-stamp stamp mill below tunnel No. 3. Workings are now caved.
Production data are found in: Tucker & Sampson (1940).
Production information: Said to have produced from 1878 to 1884. No actual production record found.
Ore was free-milling.
