An Fe occurrence/prospect located in the SW¼NE¼ sec. 2, T3S, R31E, MDM, 5.5 km (3.4 miles) ENE of Banner Ridge (coordinates of record) on Bureau of Land Management-administered wilderness land (Benton Range Wilderness Study Area). MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 1,000 meters.
Mineralization is magnetite and hematite in a matrix chiefly consisting of gouge and talc along a fault which strikes N50E, dips 75SE, and cuts schist and hornfels. Alternating layers of epidote-garnet tactite with the Fe-bearing minerals suggest the deposit is localized along calcareous layers and is contact metamorphic in origin. Local rocks include Plio-Pleistocene and Pliocene loosely consolidated deposits.
Workings include surface and underground openings and operations comprised of a short adit and a moderate amount of bulldozer scrapings. Probably too small to develop.
