A former W mine located 8.3 km (5.2 miles) SE of Waucoba Mountain (coordinates of record), at the mouth of Wheeler Canyon, on National Park Service wilderness land (Death Valley National Park/Death Valley Wilderness). MRDS database accuracy for this location is not stated.
NOTE: The geographic coordinates presented were obtained from the topo map, at a point directly between the 2 shaft symbols for the mine.
Mineralization is hosted in clastic sedimentary rock. The ore body is 0.46 meter wide and 12.19 meters long. Controls for ore emplacement included fractures. Altered sedimentary rocks now composed principally of talc, originally probably were argillaceous dolomite. The talc zone is 260 feet wide at the surface and is interbedded with phyllite to the W and thick-bedded quartzite to the E. Local rocks include Cambrian marine rocks.
Workings include underground openings comprised of a 160 ffot shaft inclined at 54 degrees. It has 3 levels and 760 feet of drifts and crosscuts.
Production statistics: Year: 1940 (period = 1940): WO3 - ore ranged from 0.5 to 3% WO3 (from 175 tons of ore).
