A former Au-Ge-Cu-Pb mine located in the NE¼ (estimated) sec. 34, T21S, R40E, MDM, 3.1 km (1.9 miles) NW of Louisiana Butte (summit), on military reservation land (China Lake Naval Ordnance Test Station). Property consisted of 4 claims. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 100 meters.
NOTE: USGS MRDS database file #10235963 places this locality in sec. 14, while file #10036064 is specific that it is in sec. 34 with an estimate of being in the NE¼ of that section. Unfortunately, the topo map set does not reflect section numbers for this portion of the military reservation.
Mineralization is a vein deposit hosted in granite. The ore body is 0.61 meters thick. There are 3 parallel veins from 9 inches (22.5 cm) to 2 feet (0.61 meter) thick. Local rocks include undivided pre-Cenozoic metavolcanic rocks, unit 2 (undivided) and/or Quaternary alluvium and marine deposits.
Workings include surface and underground openings comprised of a 20 foot deep shaft and a trench 50 feet long by 5 feet deep.
Analytical data results: 3 tons of ore from touch (grab samples) assayed $45/ton in gold (period values).
