A former lode Au-Pb occurrence/mine located in the SW¼ sec. 24 and in the NW¼ sec. 25, T11N, R10E, MDM, 1.8 km (1.1 miles) SSE of Kelsey, along Texas Canyon, on private land. Operated by A. D. O. Crabtree. Operated prior to 1915, 1926 to 1931, and 1934 to 1941. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 500 meters.

The Kelsey Mining Company was formed in 1926 and the mine was reopened and the mill was erected. It was operated until 1931. It was again reopened in 1934, the mill was altered and operated until 1941.

Mineralization is a vein deposit hosted in rocks of the Mariposa Formation (schist, slate). The deposit is in Mariposa slate associated with narrow bands of amphibolite and serpentine. The formation is much disturbed by faulting. A cross section from W to E shows a schist footwall, 6 inches (15 cm) of mixed carbonates, 8 feet of mineralized grey schist, 6 feet of slate ribbon rock with much pyrite and some galena, and then the black Mariposa slate footwall. Local rocks include Jurassic marine rocks, unit 1 (Western Sierra Nevada and Western Klamath Mountains).

Local geologic structures include: Rocks in the area trend NW with much faulting.

Workings include underground openings with a length of 746.76 meters. Developed by a main drift 1,700 feet long to the N and a 700 foot N drift adit 300 feet above the main adit. The adits are connected by a raise. There is also a 42 foot shaft near the main adit portal. Several footwall crosscuts were driven off the main adit.

Production data are found in: Logan, Clarence August (1938).

Ore from 1928-1931 yielded $1.80 to $6.40 (period values) per ton Au with ore in later years of less value. Most of the ore was from the footwall vein.

Analytical data results: 30% of Au was recovered as free gold, the remainder was recovered by smelting.
