A placer Au-Pt occurrence/group of claims/drift mine located in the NE¼ sec. 28, T3N, R13E, MDM, 1.0 km (0.6 mile) ESE of Altaville, behind the Bret Harte High School (½ mile N of Angels Camp). The property was acqired by the Calaveras Central Gold Mining Co. Ltd. in mid-1931. Operated intermittently during the periods 1908-1912 and 1922-1926. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 1,000 meters.
Mineralization is a placer Au deposit located in the Central Hill paleochannel. The gravel is cemented. Local rocks include undivided pre-Cenozoic metavolcanic rocks, unit 2 (undivided).
Workings include underground openings. Drifts were driven E to the paleochannel and small blocks of gravel averaging $5 to $6 (period values) per ton were mined S and NW of the shaft.
The cemented gravel required milling.
Operated steadily throughout 1923 and made a small production of Au. A small amount of Pt was recovered from auriferous blue clay at the bottom of the shaft during operations in 1920-1921.
