A former lode Au mine located in the N½ (estimated) sec. 19, T2N, R14E, MDM, 1.9 km (1.2 miles) ENE of Melones (site) and about 2.85 km ESE of Carson Hill (town), E of French Gulch and N of the Stanislaus River/New Melones Reservoir. Operated in 1896 and subsequently prospected in the early 1930\'s. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 500 meters.
Mineralization is a vein/pocket deposit hosted in mica schist. The ore body strikes N and dips E with several narrow veins. Gold occurred in small, rich pockets. Local rocks include pre-Cenozoic metasedimentary and metavolcanic rocks undivided.
Workings include underground openings comprised of a drift adit.
Production data are found in: Clark, Wm. B. & P.A. Lydon (1962).
A small amount of Au was produced from the pockets in 1896.
