A placer Au-opal occurrence/mine located in the NW¼ sec. 13, T5N, R11E, MDM, 1.7 km (1.1 miles) SW of Mokelumne Hill (town) (on the NW slope of Stockton Ridge). Operated during the period 1896 to 1899. Idle since 1917. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 100 meters.
Mineralization is a placer Au deposit located on the Duryea paleochannel. Pay gravel is 150 feet wide and 7 feet deep and is slightly cemented. The bedrock is diorite and the channel capping is rhyolitic and andesitic material, which form the crest of Stockton Ridge (Stockton Hill). Opals were found on the property; however, they were too soft to use a s gemstones. Local rocks include Tertiary pyroclastic and volcanic mudflow deposits, unit 9 (Cascade Range).
Workings include underground openings comprised of a 2,000 foot tunnel driven in the bedrock. The channel was drifted on for a distance of 500 feet N and 500 feet S. A main haulage way was driven 1,400 feet during the period 1896 to 1899.
