A Mn occurrence/claim/mine located in the 33 & 34 (?), T4N, R14E, MDM, about 3 km NNE of Murphys and about 6.6 km SSE of Sheep Ranch (10 miles NE of Angels Camp; on slope S of Taylor Creek [branch of Angels Creek]). MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 1,000 meters.
MRDS file note: County report lists T3N, R13E. (MRDS file changed T&R value to T4N, R14E, to correspond to other data provided.
Mineralization is in an outcrop of thin-bedded to contorted and crumpled massive metachert. The more massive lenses are stained with manganese oxide and here and there are lenses of low-grade material. Garnet crystals, but little oxidized, are found at the surface. Local rocks include Paleozoic marine rocks, undivided, unit 4 (Western Sierra Nevada).
No development has been done. Too low in grade to be of any economic importance.
