A former lode Au mine located in the NE¼ sec. 1, T3N, R13E, MDM , 1.5 km (0.9 mile) NE of Soapstone Hill (coordinates of record) and 2 miles NW of Murphys, along San Domingo Creek. Operated in 1934. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 100 or 1,000 meters (2 MRDS files).
NOTE: USGS MRDS database file #10186903 (MAS-MILS file #0060091312) presents T&R data placing this mine in sec. 36, T4N, R13E, MDM. That section is contiguous to sec. 1, T3N, R13E, MDM, as presented in the other 2 MRDS files. The topo map reflects a prospect symbol near the point of the coordinates provided for sec. 1. The data in file #10186903 are considered to be inaccurate.
Mineralization is a vein deposit hosted in slate. The ore body strikes N75W and dips NE at a thickness of 1.83 meters. The vein is 1 to 6 feet thick with 2 cross veins. Abundant sulfides are present. Local rocks include Paleozoic marine rocks, undivided, unit 4 (Western Sierra Nevada) (limestone of probable Paleozoic or Mesozoic age).
Workings include underground openings comprised of a 436 foot lower adit and a 120 foot upper adit, connected by a 140 foot raise.
