A former drift placer Au mine located in the SW¼NE¼ sec. 26, T3N, R13E, MDM, about 3.65 km (about 2 miles) W of Vallecito, along Six Mile Creek, and 2.6 km (1.6 miles) ENE of Angels Camp. Operated during the periods April to November, 1935, and May, 1936 to early 1937. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 1,000 meters.
Mineralization is a placer Au deposit on the Central Hill paleochannel. Drifts were thought to bridge a 250 foot wide depression in slate bedrock with a 30 foot depth. The gravel carries minor amounts of Au, and is not the main channel. Geophysical prospecting said to have indicated a lower channel to the N. Local rocks include Tertiary pyroclastic and volcanic mudflow deposits, unit 9 (Cascade Range).
Workings include underground openings comprised of a 116 foot vertical shaft with a 45 foot drift to the S, which struck 2 feet of pay gravel, and a 220 foot N drift. The last activity was drifitng S to connect with an old 80 foot incline.
