Sheep Anomoly [sic]
A U-Cu occurrence/claim located 6.2 km (3.8 miles) ESE of Agathla Peak (El Capitan) (coordinates of record) and 13.9 km (8.6 miles) NE of Kayenta, on the south flank of the Agathla anticline. NOTE: This feature has two names based on different agencies involvement. Sheep Channel is the Atomic Energy Commission name and Channel 44 is the USGS name.
Mineralization is a replacement U-Cu paleochannel deposit that trends N45W and is 35 feet wide and 25 feet deep, with an irregular ore body hosted in coarse-grained, Late Triassic sandstone of the Chinle Formation. Species include unspecified secondary copper minerals. Radioactivity measured by scintillometer is 10 times background. Local rocks include rocks of the Chinle Formation.
