This deposit was often incorrectly termed the Sylvester mine (a mine to the immediate south). It probably includes a number of related galena bearing veins in or adjacent a Cambrian basaltic formation. Where weathered the veins have a variety of oxide-zone minerals.

It is best known for green pyromorphite, commonly altered to green or white plumbogummite (commonly described as hinsdalite - but this species is unconfirmed here).

Bill Birch agrees: "I think there are some grounds for questioning the ID of hinsdalite, as I described it in the Mineralogical Record note in 1977. As I mentioned in the note, I had based the identification on 'preliminary chemical data provided by Ralph Segnit'. Unfortunately I can't find those data in my files. Subsequently (in 1988), I did carry out a microprobe analysis of that sample, which showed only 0.6 wt% S. This translates to a formula of PbAl3[(PO4)1.88(SO4)0.12)], therefore classifying the mineral as plumbogummite rather than hinsdalite, as S needs to exceed 0.5 in the formula to plot in the 'hinsdalite' field, based on Keith Scott's scheme. I suspect that the presence of S in the mineral was enough for Ralph and I to call it hinsdalite at the time, as it was before the Scott scheme came in and set some boundaries. I don't know why I didn't take the 1988 probe data further." (Bill Birch)"
