A Au-Monazite placer deposit area located in sec. 8 & in the SW¼ sec. 9, T15N, R18W, G&SRM, at the SW foot of the Mohave Mountains, about 5 miles from the Colorado River, 10 miles N of Lake Havasu City, and 30 miles SE of Needles, California, and about 18 miles SE of Topock, on Bureau of Land Management administered land. Discovered in 1857 and worked until 1960. Owned by Buck Enterprises and Associates, Washington (1979). The USGS MRDS database stated accuracy for this locality is 5,000 meters.
NOTE: MRDS file #10027867 gives T&R values of secs. 26, 27, & 28, T14N, R15N & in T19W, R20W, G&SRM with geographic coordinates of 34.58364N, 114.29719W. This placer area is obviously quite expansive and may legitimately occupy both areas.
Mineralization is a placer gold deposit (Mineral occurrence model information: Model code: 119; USGS model code: 39a; BC deposit profile: C01. C02; Deposit model name: Placer Au-PGE; Mark3 model number: 54), hosted in unconsolidated gravel consisting largely of gold-bearing quartz, porphyritic debris and volcanic material and cemented with calcite (caliche).
The ore body is 9.14 meters thick, 1,609.3 meters wide, and 8,046.5 meters long with a depth-to-top of 0 meters and depth-to-bottom of 9.14 meters. Local rocks include Early Proterozoic metamorphic rocks.
