A former underground Pb-Ag-Zn-Ba-Cu-Au mine located in the center of sec. 19, T.5S., R.20W. (protracted), 7 miles from Castle Dome landing by road and 1½ miles North of the old Castle Dome Road, on a military reservation. Started 1924; reopened 1926. NOTE: Alternate coordinates provided: 32.9758N, 114.3611W.
Mineralization is spotty, partly oxidized, argentiferous galena and sphalerite, with a few spots and streaks of malachite, in a gangue of barite and limonite-stained gouge, in a silicified fault zone cutting a wide, pronounced, seriticized diorite porphyry dike. The thin vein (fraction of an inch to 6 inches thick) of galena is in Mesozoic rocks; a diorite porphyry dike, approximately 150 feet (50 meters) wide trends SSW and, near its eastern margin, is cut by a steeply NW-ward dipping fault zone that strikes S15ºW This zone is silicified for a width of 2 or 3 feet. The wall rocks show pronounced seritization.
Workings include a 300 foot (91.44 meters) long tunnel, worked mainly in the 1920's. According to the U.S. Mineral Resources, some ore was shipped from this mine in 1924 and 1926. Total production would be a few tens of tons of ore averaging about 60% Pb, 36 oz. Ag/T and very minor Au & Cu was shipped in the 1920's. The vein also contained about 12% zinc that was not recovered.
