Historic zinc-lead-silver mining on carbonate-replacement Pb-Zn deposits in the Kosmaj-Babe area (part of the Sumadija mining district in central Serbia; coordinates of Babe: 44.52921, 20.52821).
The intensity of the historical mining activity (the oldest one dates back to the Romans) is evidenced by the presence of five thousand collapsed mining shafts over an area of 5 square kilometres and extensive lead and silver slag dumps estimated at 1,000,000 tons.
There was limited renewed activity between 1889 and 1939. Systematic mineral exploration was undertaken in the permit area during the 1970s and 1980s by state-controlled companies of the former Yugoslavia.
Old slags which produced 3118 t Pb.
Resources of 6.5 Mt @ 4.1% Pb, 2.1% Zn, 0.3% Cu with Ag, Cd and Bi.
Ore deposit type: Pb-Zn-Ag skarns and stratiform mantos: Pb, Zn, Ag, (Au)
