The Jaundutkas Dolomite Quarry is a Late Devonian (Daugava suite) dolomite deposit located two kilometres from the Ropaži Quarry. Like the other two quarries (Ropaži and Dutkas quarries), it is a not big quarry for the extraction of crushed dolomite. Formally, it can be considered a continuation of the Remīne quarry, which nowdays is flooded.
In the quarry, one can find Devonian dolomite rocks which completely consist of fossil gastropods. In Latvia, this rock is called "gliemeždolomīts", which literally translates as "snail dolomite".
This dolomite is used as a local decorative building stone. Previously this material (not from this particular quarry) was used in the construction of such objects as Bastejkalns Park, Congress Centre, in bridges over the Riga city canal, and in others places in Riga.
From a mineralogical point of view, this quarry is considered to be very poor. Our group found only one specimen after an hour of searching and it's an unusual specimen of pink calcite, which can be seen in this picture:
