A former gold mine.
Developed by the Morning Star Company. The combined total for the Morning Star and Old Golden Ridge mines was about 6,000 ounces of gold. A 5 head battery was purchased from Fisher's Creek on the Collingwood goldfield, and erected at the junction of the Slaty and Coffey creeks, in a bend in the gorge. The company was later taken over by the Golden Ridge Company, with an open cast (pit) mine producing an additional 5,000 ounces.
Upper Cretaceous coal measures, mudstone, and conglomerate overlie weathered Palaeozoic sediments containing gold, with auriferous quartz veins in a narrow band of sheared mudstone.
Co-ordinates are approximate.
