Köppen climate type:
Structure: Wichita Mountains Lugert Granite Intrusive
Tectonics: Aulacogen
Commodity: Brogden said that 200 assays were run, varying from 2-14% cu, and 2 dollars of Ag per ton of rock. He was from mule shoe, texas, and said that about 100,000 tons was available. R.j. Vanderslice, 1104 w. 12th st., sulphur, ok, collected the samples for brogden.
Deposit: Deposit thickness 15 ft by brogden. Atchison (1936) estimated that 540,000 cubic yards were available for mining or leaching. Brogden (1942) estimated 100,000 tons of azurite and malachite. This region was visited by brevel (1765) and maley (1812) who reported mining activities nearby. In 1833, simon n. Cockrell sa W miners working in area. In 1896, bill kennedy and others worked in the area. In 1902, frank lugert was in the area. Mr. A. Hymer worked in the area for 16 years around 1903-1919. Lee winters family lived in area since 1880's. Brogden (1942) said that 200 assays have been run on this deposit, showing 2-14% cu and 2 dollars of silver per ton of rock. He said that about 100,000 tons was available. His sample was about 7.59% cu. He was from mule shoe, texas. Mr. Oakes said that brogden's location was off and should be in sec. 3 instead of 2.
Development: Spanish miners from santa fe, NE W mexico, were supposed to have worked in this area in the 1700's. A jose martinez (1858) was in area with 3 old spanish miners. The santa Fe-natchitoches trail followed the north fork through this area. Greer co. Was in texas on s. Side of river in 1800's.
Geology: Probably hydrothermal veins in lugert granite were weathered, and the copper was incorporated into permian arkose (hennessey). Polk (1948) and merritt (1958) discuss the geology.
