Small historic coal mine wedged between the north bank of the Grey River, and cliffs behind, on the western side of the Brunner Coal Mine. The mine was operational between 1875 to 1893, producing 0.577 Mt of coal.
Mining started around 1875, owned by Joseph Taylor, backed by a group of Greymouth businessmen. Two shafts were sunk, however by 1887, the capital to develop the mine had run-out, and it was sold to the Westport Coal Company. The right to work the mine was taken by the Grey Valley Coal Company from August 1888, until the lease was cancelled in 1893.
The mine was abandoned due to a fire breaking out, hillside creep when pillars were removed making the mine unsafe, flooding, or a combination in a short time, the mine being amalgamated with the Brunner mine workings.
William Dickson was killed at the mine in 1891.
